In an effort to bring social services to the residents of our underserved areas, ALERT held its inaugural Improving Your Quality of Life event at the senior facility of the South Mall Towers.
The event was hosted by our Task Force member, Kim Hansen and made the residents aware of help that’s available from law enforcement and community organizations.
They were made aware of services available for opioid, drug, and alcohol addiction; Identifying Internet scams was shared by the NY State Police; how to utilize Narcan was shared by the AC Sheriff’s Office; and the dangers of purchasing “street” drugs were shared by the DEA; the FBI and US Attorney's office shared on senior safety in several areas including telephone scams.
Community organizations, LEAD shared on the prospect of diversion instead of incarceration and the Senior Hope Counseling services shared on the counseling services they provide.
In addition to these organizations and agencies were the Albany Police Department, Albany Fire Department, and the AC District Attorney’s office.
Paul Kane [AKA, Batman], the Secretary of the Community Police Review Board, or the CPRB represented them. Chiquita D’Arbeau executive Director of the Albany Housing Authority also attended.
Albany County Legislator, Sam Fein and NY State Assembly member, John McDonald showed their support and vowed to continue advocating for the residents in their respective positions.
The event certainly accomplished what it intended, “Improving the Quality of Life” for some of Albany’s best residents.
